Andreas Barfuss elected as new Banking Ombudsman
Zurich, 11 April 2022 — At its last meeting, the Board of Trustees of the “Swiss Banking Ombudsman Foundation” elected Andreas Barfuss to succeed Marco Franchetti, who is stepping down from office at the end of the year.
Barfuss, 49, is currently a member of Senior Management of the Swiss Bankers Association, Head of Legal and Compliance. In this capacity, he is currently Administrator of the Board of Trustees of the “Swiss Banking Ombudsman Foundation” and thus very familiar with the tasks of the Banking Ombudsman’s Office.
Barfuss holds a double degree in law and business administration. In addition to his work as a lawyer, the new Banking Ombudsman has several years of international professional experience in the IT and telecommunications industry. As a former legal counsel at a well-known Swiss bank, his broad range of activities at the Bankers Association and his recently acquired Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in “Inter-national Banking and Finance Law”, he also has the banking-specific know-how that is essential for the position of banking ombudsman. Barfuss was also able to repeatedly demonstrate his negotiating and mediating skills in his last position at the Swiss Bankers Association.
“We are pleased to have found an extremely competent successor for Marco Franchetti in Andreas Barfuss. He brings with him both the professional and personal experience that the demanding task of Swiss Banking Ombudsman demands,” explains Brigitta Gadient, President of the Foundation Board. Barfuss will take up his post at the end of the year.
